Murder of scholars should be stopped immediately.

Over the past few weeks, Emperor Qin has been ordering hundreds of Confucian scholars to be buried alive or sent to work on the Great Wall. While the scholars were being put to death, their books were burned. Already 460 lives have been taken.

Emperor Qin should cease the murder of hundreds of scholars immediately because it is not only hurting the scholars, but China as well.

Having scholars in China will benefit the country’s progress. With scholars studying about the history of China and the history of other countries, they can help us learn which types of government work and which kinds have failed so that China will be able to  better govern our people. Scholars also study about the great ancient battles and see what made the victorious prevail which will help China better defeat its enemies.

Another reason why Emperor Qin should cease the murder of the scholars is because murdering your own people is wrong. Others will see China as a barbaric place where their leader orders the execution of hundreds of his people.

Some people believe that what Emperor Qin is doing is right. They claim that scholars corrupt the minds of others. They say that since they learn about foreign places, they get other ideas and might overthrow Emperor Qin. But murdering people is wrong, especially murdering your own people. All the scholars did was study, they spent money on books and tutors so they could learn and give themselves and their families a better life. In return they get to be buried alive.   

Emperor Qin should order the execution of scholars to be stopped because not only does it hurt the scholars, but will destroy China’s future.
